CITY CAST Portland talks transportation

This week I was mentioned on the August 20 episode of City Cast Portland, which featured a detailed conversation with BikePortland publisher Jonathan Maus. This episode is the start of their series examining big issues that could shape Portland’s Fall election, and the focus of the first episode was on transportation —something near and dear to my heart.

In the discussion, Jonathan highlighted critical issues facing Portland's streets, including safety concerns and the need to improve our progress toward Vision Zero goals. He noted, “The streets are still too unsafe... We’re not doing a good enough job reaching that Vision Zero goal.” Jonathan also shared his thoughts on which Portland City Council candidates might be great transportation advocates:

“So when I look at district two, north and northeast, which is where I live, there's three names that really jump out at me. First one's probably Nat West, the former craft cidermaker. This is somebody who has been going around on his bike a lot during his campaign. He’s also leading a cider ride [for Pedalpalooza]. He was a bus driver for a bit, a TriMet bus driver… and he wrote a lot about it online and really seemed to embrace that. So this is a person who I think is really gonna deeply understand the need for transit.”

If you’re interested in this critically important topic and how it relates to the upcoming election, this episode is a great resource. Thanks for the shoutout, Jonathan!
